Global Switch extends its partnership with IBM in Madrid

Release date: 04.08.2009

Europe's leading fully-fitted turn key data centre owner and operator, Global Switch, has recently completed a significant data centre lease agreement with the world's largest Information Technology company, IBM.

IBM is already a major occupier of the Global Switch Madrid data centre, as it is across most of the Global Switch portfolio.

Global Switch, whose model is to own its assets on a freehold basis, has also completed the acquisition of the freehold interest of its Madrid data centre, which has a gross area of 250,000 sq ft (23,225 sq m) and a base power density of 1kw/m2. As with all Global Switch data centres, the Madrid centre has been designed to deliver a range of flexible power density solutions from sub 1kw/m2 for network applications through to 2kw/m2 for blade server environments. The Madrid data centre is widely considered to be the premium data centre within the region and serves many national and international organisations including major enterprises, systems integrators, and telecommunication businesses.

Global Switch has invested significantly across its European and Asia-Pacific data centre portfolio and this latest strategic investment reflects the strength in customer demand in general and in particular the Spanish market.

John Corcoran, the Global Switch Executive Chairman confirmed: "This is the next step in the Global Switch development within Europe. With the recent purchase of the Madrid freehold, Global Switch now owns and operates eight data centres around the world with a total gross area of in excess of 260,000 sq m.

We see this as a real differentiator to our competitors. With the high level of market interest in our Madrid data centre we expect to be in a position to announce further news of new lettings in the not too distant future."

Global Switch is a Reuben Brothers company.
